Learning to read doesn’t have to be difficult! The Word Family Readers iPad App makes it easy and fun! It contains 68 word family books! These books cover short vowels, blends, long vowels, vowel teams and r-controlled vowels. Each book includes engaging activities and games that help students learn the family and sight words.
The books are easy to read! Your student reads the large words and you read the small words. Whenever your student struggles with a word, they can tap on it and a “word picture card” appears to help jog their memory. Each book also contains audio that can read the book to your student.
There are even activities to help your student learn the consonants before they begin reading the books!

Help students learn to read! This iPad App is great for ANYONE learning to read including beginning readers, struggling readers, those with learning disabilities and those learning English as a second language! It’s easy! It’s fun! It works!!
The Word Family Readers app includes great activities for students to learn the consonants!
Students need to know the consonant sounds before starting the word Family Readers Program. To learn the consonant sounds, students choose letters one at a time. They listen to the letters, sounds and words. After they watch the ball trace the letters, they trace the letters with their fingers.
There are 68 books in this power packed program!
Twelve Activities and Games are provided for each book!
The Actvities and Games are listed and explained below.
Note: Stars light up as the students go through each menu item.
1. Listen to the Book
Listening to the book helps students:
-identify many Family Words,
-to become familiar with the story and illustrations,
-relate the words to their corresponding pictures as seen in the Games & Activities,
-with fluency when reading the book with you.
Tap on the “Play” icon to hear each page.
Note: Use the “lock” icon to prevent popups and page turns so that students may follow words wth their fingers when listening to the book.
2. Review the Vowels
Students use the four Vowel Charts to review all vowels that have been taught in previous lessons. They may tap on any vowel that they do not recall to hear its letter, sound and word.
3. Read the Review Words
Students read words that were taught in previous lessons and that are included in this book. Students may tap on any word that they do not recall to see its popup and to hear the word.
4. Learn the Vowel Sound
Students will listen to the letter, sound and word. They watch the ball trace the letter and then trace the letter with their fingers.
5. Learn the Word Family
To learn the Word Family, students drag the letters up to the boxes starting with the blinking box on the left. After the letters are in place, they come together and the students hear the Word Family.
6. Match the Family Word
Students hear the word and drag the word up to the Word Picture Card to match the Family Word.
7. Spell the Family Words
Students hear the word and drag the letters up to the boxes to spell the Family Word. They start with the blinking box.
8. Match the Sight Word
Students hear the word and drag the word up to the Word Picture Card to match the Sight Word.
9. Spell the Sight Words
Students hear the word and drag the letters up to the boxes to spell the Sight Word. They start with the blinking box.
10. Play the Board Game
Students tap on the words that they hear. Their game piece will move one space for each word they find. The students take turns with the computer.
11. Read the Book
Teachers read the words in small print and students read words in large print.
Words in large red print are the new Family Words. Words in large blue print are the new Sight Words. Words in large black print are Family Words and Sight Words that were taught in previous lessons. If students need help with any of the large words, they may tap on them to access their Word Picture Card Popups
Note: Use the lock icon to prevent and to enable popups and page swiping.
12. Take the Quiz
These Comprehension Quizzes show what the student is comprehending from reading the books. Quizzes need to be read to the students. They may mark their answers on a printed copy or answer the questions verbally. These quizzes may also be used for group discussion. A convenient answer key is included.
